Perry Slams Council Decision to permit 45 New Homes on Green Belt land behind Boxwood Way
Tandridge Council has permitted an application from Chartwell to build 45 new homes in the beautiful Crewes Valley behind Boxwood Way, despite unanimous opposition from Warlingham councillors and the Parish Council.
Warlingham East LibDem district councillor Perry Chotai moved refusal of the application on the grounds that it was inappropriate development in the Green Belt in an Area of Great Landscape Value and was harmful to the character of the area. But despite strong representations from other councillors and the Parish Council the Residents Alliance majority on the Planning Committee voted it through.
Perry said: “I was very disappointed that the Committee approved this plan despite the very strong arguments against it. It was wrongly put into the withdrawn Local Plan by the then Tory Administration against local opposition, as this land performs strongly in resisting urban sprawl, the main purpose of the Green Belt, and this decision opens up other parts of Warlingham’s Green Belt border to development”.
