The first phase of the Green Improvement Project involving the repaving of the south and west pavements in attractive coloured blocks, the installation of three new crossing points with associated changes to paths, plus new street furniture and signs, has been successfully completed, on time and within budget.

The work has effectively transformed The Green and made it safer for pedestrians to cross to the centre, and drainage has been improved at the Westhall Road junction and the eastern end.

Councillor Simon Morrow, who led the work and chaired the Steering Committee said: “I am very pleased with the implemented Scheme. It provides exactly the makeover we wanted as well as safer access to the central Green for pedestrians, making it more usable”.

The next stage is to design and implement a new soft landscaping scheme for the central Green, with a more coherent arrangement of beds and plants and a selection of plants that provide interest throughout the year. This is planned to be in place early next year. The Parish Council has also submitted a bid to Tandridge to fund Phase Two of the Project – the repaving of the northern pavement.
